The George Sisters from Nevertire

Diana’s Story

Hi my name is Diana, I am 18 years old. At the moment I am working and living in Orange for a gap year, before I go to the University of New England in Armidale to study a Bachelor of Agriculture next year. A Start in Life has been helping my sister Rebecca and I since October 2007. As a result of their help I was able to stay at Kinross Wolaroi School - Orange, as a boarder and continue with my studies, extra-curricular activities and to achieve some great results.

  • In 2007 I received SR Garvin Runner-Up in School Certificate.
  • In 2009 I received a Certificate for Runner-Up in Higher School Certificate.
  • In regards to extra-curricular, Cattle showing and judging is a passion. I also studied Speech & Drama since Year 7.
  • In April 2008, I was awarded Reserve Champion of NSW for Junior Judging at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
  • In May 2009, I graduated with A Honours and acquired a Diploma in Performance P.DipIMEB in Speech & Drama.
  • In 2009 I was awarded a Certificate with Colours for Excellence in Cattle Judging from Kinross Wolaroi School.

None of the above would have been possible without the help and encouragement from A Start in Life. I thank you for everything and hope you will continue with me on my journey of studies starting again next year at Uni.

Rebecca’s Story

Hello, my name is Rebecca, I am 13 years old. I was in Year 5, when A Start in Life began helping Diana and I in October 2007. As you can tell from my sister’s achievements above, I have some big shoes to fill. Wish me luck! I am proud of my sister and have always looked to her as a role model.

I am now at boarding school in Bathurst - The Scots School, and enjoy it very much. I feel that I also have had a few successes.

  • In 2008 I received Harry Ctercteko & Athol Martin Encouragement Award for Efforts toward Academic Achievements in 2008.
  • In 2009, my 1st year away at boarding school I had a fairly successful year - I received an award at The Scots Speech Day for Outstanding Academic Effort. I also received at The Scots last 2009 school assembly a Substantial Academic Achievement Certificate and 7 Merit Awards in a range of subjects.
  • While away at boarding school I have joined the Scots Cattle Team and also have private tuition with Guitar, which I love greatly.
  • At the Royal Bathurst Show 2010, I was awarded Second Place for Girls 12-14 years - Young Country Achievers Award.

None of this would have been possible if I was not attending The Scots School - Bathurst, and this has been made possible, due to the support of A Start in Life. Thankyou.
